Abstract

Recent object relation theories emphasize the importance of the quality of interpersonal relationships in personality developemnt and psychopathology. And have resulted in the construction of methods for assessing the representation of
interpersonal
experiences. The Urist Mutuality of Autonomy(MOA) Scale is one of the most frequently used methods for assessing the quality of object representations by evaluating interactions portrayed on the Rorschach between people, animals, and/or things.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of the MOA scale. The variables of the MOA score. Content category, and form quality were assessed in the Rorschach protocols of 41 psychiatric patients. The relations between the object
representation and the content category, and between the object representation and the form quality were examined The results are found that, as the response on the Rorschach contains the negative representation of interactions, it is more
depicted
as
dehumanized figures, and its form quality is worse. Therefore, it seems that the negative representations of interactions portrayed on the Rorschach create the defense demand in the individuals and lower the effectiveness of defensive
functioning.
It is
suggested that the MOA scale seems to assess a tendency toward pathological functioning.
